The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts (Watercolour)
The images in both watercolour and oil are a testament to the birth and development of a key cultural structure within our city and one fought for over many years.
I had been given permission to paint watercolours within the Teatro Massimo, the beaux arts style opera house of Palermo and the third largest in Europe so when I arrived in Toronto to see the beginnings of the foundations of the new opera house I decided to record its growth over a period of two years. In 2006, the COC opened its new opera house the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. The traditional five-tiered, European horseshoe-shaped auditorium was specifically designed for opera with the highest level of acoustics and provides unparalleled intimacy between the audience and the stage.
